Amanda Crews attended the three-day Passenger Service and Safety Trainer Certification (PASS) course conducted by the Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) in Wells, Maine on June 17-19. After the completion of this course and passing the certification test, participants are then certified by the CTAA to provide training to drivers. The ‘train the trainer’ class focuses on teaching participants how to teach and educate drivers, and includes training on the assistance drivers should provide to passengers with special needs, intensive emergency situation training, disability awareness, proper lift use and wheelchair securement techniques, blood borne pathogens, etc.
The class was predominantly led by Mr. Jim Holman, who has been a safety instructor for Community Transportation Association of America for over 20 years. There were other safety professionals involved in the presentation of this class who focused on how to safely and legally navigate ADA law, which is focused on the rights of passengers, not their safety, contrary to popular belief.
At the PASS training, there were twenty-six total participants comprised of non-emergency medical transportation business owners, safety directors, human resources personnel, etc. Amanda is now certified to hold training sessions which can include certifications to participants on both PASS Basic and PASS Hands On.
