While attending the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association‘s Fall Convention and Trade Show October 27-31, I have to say that I, as well as our other Transportation Team members that attended, came to find the round-table meetings to be very informative and beneficial. Some of the round-table topics that were discussed were: Fluctuations in the Insurance Market from Soft to Hard, App Technology, Driver Hiring and Customer Service Standards, Rising Use in Hybrid Vehicles, and Broker Trends, all of which our team found to be very informative. Not only were members able to express their experiences, concerns, and ideas, but these types of discussions also allowed for everyone in attendance to get a better idea of what other business owners are doing well and struggling with. In addition to the round-table discussions, there were several breakout sessions that were typically lead by three or four transportation industry business owners that have several years of experience as well as a vast knowledge on the topic of conversation. One breakout session that was of great interest to me focused on negotiating and winning non-emergency medical transportation broker and agency contracts.
The exhibit hall was filled with hundreds of exhibitors and very alive with energy. The exhibitors showed a variety of products ranging from insurance needs (ehem, yours truly) to the latest technologies in vehicle tracking systems and communications. Many of the vendors had displays that business owners were able to get their hands on and test out right there in the exhibit hall. We saved trees by deciding not to hand out insurance policies, and rather enjoyed meeting business owners and other industry service providers.
I’m looking forward to the next TLPA convention coming up this spring near my hometown in sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida!
